Say My Name by Michael Loring

Say My Name Michael Loring

Say My Name is a thrilling short story in the horror vein written by author, Michael Loring.  It was first published in an anthology STALKERS: A Collection of Thriller Stories

Stalkers Cover

that was complied and edited by Cynthia Shepp and Rene Folsom, (I also had a short story in this anthology, but alas, I must admit I have been lax in ready my fellow brethren, thus my beginning to embark on the Stalker journey to review all the stories in this anthology, much as I did when I read Twist). So, please find below, my opinion of Say My Name by Michael Loring.

I have enjoyed Michael Loring’s other shorts, and I can add this one to the list. Loring has the ability to create likable characters that pull you in immediately without knowing much about them, thus creating a need in the reader to root for said character as they go on whatever journey Loring sends them.

Say My Name is no different. Loring creates a scenario that we are immediately drawn into and builds tension that grows with each turn of the page. I thought this story, which was originally published in the anthology Stalkers, was a different and interesting take on the Stalkers idea.

Truly great read… Fantastic ending.

Shuttered Affections Cover

After escaping to a college town, Juliana Petersen was determined to put her troubled past behind her and make the most of life. She was satisfied with her current situation, or so she thought. It wasn’t until the day her new photography professor stole her parking spot that she realized there was such thing as lust at first sight. Now, she must struggle with the decision to break the rules and fall in love, or step back and let the chance of a lifetime pass her by—all while her past relationships come back to haunt her.

How many men will it take to break Julia’s hold on reality?

In an attempt to lighten the mood, I changed the subject. Uncrossing my legs, I planted my feet slightly apart in front of me and propped my elbows on my knees.

“I also brought some fruit… grapes and strawberries.” I smiled big at my attempt to be sweet.

“Ahh. Actually, grapes would be great, but I’m allergic to strawberries,” he said with a bashful look on his face.

“Oh, what a shame,” I said with a hint of seduction in my voice. “Because they’re very plump and juicy. I just love strawberries.”

“Oh, you do, do you?” he teased.

I nodded, biting my lip out of nervousness with what I was about to do.

Then, I did the most daring thing I could think of.

I grabbed one of the strawberries and slowly brought it to my mouth. I parted my lips and thrust my tongue slightly out to meet with the delicious red morsel. I bit down while sucking the juices slowly. My eyes fluttered and rolled shut as I enjoyed the delicious flavors bursting onto my taste buds. Seductively, I flicked the leftover green cap into the grass beside us, then began licking and sucking on the two fingers that were covered with the sticky juice.

After enjoying each slow chew, I opened my eyes to gaze upon a man with power and hunger in his eyes. Hunger for me.

The next thing I knew, Aiden was on his hands and knees, methodically making his way towards me.

Out of sheer instinct, I backed away while keeping my legs slightly apart and propping myself back on my arms. He continued his prowl until he was kneeling between my knees with both his hands braced beside me.

He edged closer to me, his lips hovering precariously close to mine. A sudden gasp of breath was all I could manage before our lips met.

His right hand steadied my upper back while he held himself up with his left, hovering over me. His chest pressed hot and hard against mine. Our tongues met and tangled together. I struggled for air but couldn’t pull away. He consumed me.

About the Author

Rene Folsom, author of paranormal romance and erotica, lives in Florida with her husband and three kids. She has officially diagnosed herself with creative ADD and, if it weren’t for her day job as a web programmer, she would have a million and one writing projects going at once. In addition to web design, she is also a graphic artist who loves to create custom book cover designs for indie authors. She is definitely an artist at heart and would love nothing more than to be elbow deep in clay during her waking hours.

Rene believes that all fiction is based on some form of reality—otherwise we would never have the inspiration or knowledge to dream up the realistic situations we portray with our words. She is proud to say that her personal experiences have been inspirational, though perhaps not always identical to that of her fictional characters. Where reality and fantasy diverge, however, must remain her little secret…

Cover Reveal & Review – Bind Me (Roommate Romance #2) by Rene Folsom

** Bind Me is an erotic romance short story for ADULTS ONLY! This novelette is roughly 6600 words and contains light BDSM scenes between a curious woman and her very dominant male roommate. **

Synopsis:  Lily had a suspicion her new roommate was the type to always take control, no matter what the situation. It wasn’t until she accidentally peeked in on Chaz dominating another woman, that her suspicions were realized. Lily watched with amazement as Chaz masterfully played the female like a sensual instrument, bringing her the most intense gratification Lily had ever witnessed.

After witnessing his sexual expertise from a distance and noticing the careful attention he gives to his lovers, Lily wanted nothing more than to have his hands sculpt every inch of her body. Unable to forget the incredibly erotic scene Chaz so skillfully played out, Lily sought to make her desires known by casually submitting to him throughout their daily lives.

To her excitement, Chaz invites Lily to his prestigious art show opening at a local gallery. All it takes is a slinky dress, a pair of kitten heels, and a tiny scrap of lace to drive Chaz wild, causing some very heated moments.

Review: I was given the opportunity to preview this story by Rene Folsom and all I can say is HOT, HOT, HOT!!  I loved her first story in the series Heart Me, but this one was right up my alley!!  Her grasp of the tease and the sub/dom play is phenomenal!!  Pulling the string of sexual tension, tighter and tighter until it finally breaks, delivering a fulfilling “climax” to the reader… sorry, I got distracted 😉  This is a Great, Sexy, Steamy story (alliteration aside)… Go Get it on it’s release!!  LOL… sorry for the pun 🙂

Cheating… hmm…

I was reading another blog a little while ago and the author was talking about the little talked about reasons why men cheat.  At the end, everyone had something to comment about.   The agreeing with the author, the chastising, the offering of other reasons… and yet none of them seemed to (1) mention that just as many women cheat and (2) why people are so devastated by cheating.

1. Yes… women cheat.  I’ve had women friends who cheated on their boyfriends and husbands, and girlfriends and wives.  There are always different reasons.  They felt neglected because he/she was never home or never listened, they weren’t in love with their partners anymore, there was no passion, he/ she was cheating on her… the list goes on forever and there is always an excuse. One commentator on the other blog got it right in one respect, they do it because they can.  Yes, there are repercussions and consequences, but in many cases, most people want to get caught. Yep, you heard me, they want to get caught.  Why?  Because there are problems in the relationship and the cheating is a symptom.   Getting caught brings it to the surface.  Now of course this isn’t true in all cases… sometimes sex is an outlet and nothing more… sometimes they just want to cheat, male or female, they want to step out… thus bringing us to…

2. The real reason that cheating is so devastating to the non-cheater.  It’s simple really… it’s the lying.  Lies.  The whole act of cheating is a calculated, self-indulgent lie.  A one night stand is bad enough.  The cheater has to cover his or her whereabouts for an evening, working late, car accident, friend needed me… and the trusting partner believes.  There it is… the trusting partner.  It’s bad enough when you cheat once, but then there is the affair.  Yeah, the affair is worse.  Why?  Because now, it’s time and money and emotion.  The onc time lie has become symptomatic and huge and continuous.

Lots of people say it’s the sex.  I don’t think it is… sure, you’re concerned because maybe they weren’t safe.  That’ s possible, but look deeper and I bet you see where the pain really is… it’s in the lie.  This person who is supposed to always be truthful with you has been systematically lying, for whatever reason.  That’s why it’s so hard to get trust back… because of the lies.  Right after the lies, it’s the rejection.  Why wasn’t I enough?  Why didn’t you love me like that?

There is no magic fix to this because some people will always cheat… but maybe we can try to look at it for what it could be… the symptom to a greater problem.  Take a look and see what it might be… maybe you can fix it, maybe you can’t.

Have I been cheated on?  Not that I know of, I don’t believe so, but you never know for sure.  But I do know that if I was ever cheated on and learned about it, it would be the lie that hurt the most.
