True Fodder by S.L. Dearing – Cover Reveal

True Fodder
A Horror Short Story
by
S.L. Dearing

My latest tiny tale is that of terror, ladies and gentlemen.
It will be available to the masses on October 21, 2014.

When Jackson Montgomery and Miranda Stuart are partnered up during the company Team Building weekend, neither of them could be less thrilled. Out in the middle of a forest, paint-ball guns in hand, the duo set off to “take down” their peers. Yet in the process, they wander off course, and when they set off to find their way back, they run across a fairy ring, and temptation.

Things aren’t always what they appear and when these “frenemies” are pulled into a nightmare, can they put aside their differences and escape?

True Fodder is a Paranormal Horror Short Story.

TWIST Reviews – One Story at a Time – Metronome by Eaton Thomas Palmer

Disclaimer: These reviews pertain to stories in the anthology – Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST.  I have a story in this book (Bloodlines – I won’t be reviewing my story ;), so many feel that I cannot objectively review other stories in the same book I am also featured in… that being said, to each their own, I know my own level of integrity.  Thus, people can choose to believe me or not.  I want to review them and give my opinion… so I am.

Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST

Synopsis: Dr. Edgar Collins has his hands full with attempting to rehabilitate Matthew, and it’s no wonder with IT interfering.

Review: I was so impressed with this story.  I did not see the end coming and was pleasantly surprised.  Eaton Thomas Palmer writes with true grit and grime.  I could see the walls of the facility, the doctors and rooms.  All of his characters were fully developed and the TWIST was totally fulfilling.  All in all, a great anchor story!  I look forward to seeing what else, Mr. Palmer delivers us in the future.

5 pink stars

Eaton Thomas Palmer was born and raised in the Midwest, and entered the business world because it was the thing to do. It has never been satisfying to him. Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST

Synopsis: What is a vampire to do when he has to feed?  He hunts, but the game of cat and mouse this vampire plays may be his undoing.

Review: This story was GREAT!!  Talk about a beautifully written exercise in terror.  Nicki Scalise has written a fantastic tale.  I can’t give anything away, but this was wonderful!  Seriously, well written, well thought out and what a TWIST!!  Definitely a 5 star read!!

Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST

Synopsis: Whenever Dom thinks about Rose’s hazel eyes, he knows that she’s the one… the one to make his life complete.  But Rose isn’t the girl that Dom thinks she is.  Love is a tricky thing and its all in The Eyes of the Beholder.

Review: This was a great story that seemed to have a little bit of everything.  It kept me guessing and I didn’t see the end coming at all.  There are lots of TWISTs and turns and I found myself truly engaged in the characters.  Again, I didn’t see this TWIST coming and was pleasantly surprised when it did come.  I thought it was well written and full of imagination.

Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST

Synopsis:  A glimpse into the diary of a 13 year old girl.  The drama, the anguish and the joy… as we see exactly what she wants for Christmas.

Review: Jason Brant expertly takes us into the world of a teenage girl.  I felt as if this could be any thirteen-year-old’s diary.  All of the angst and drama, as well as the humor.  I was surprised by the TWIST in this story, which is great! After all, I am the TWIST detective.  It’s an easy read and extremely enjoyable.  Well done, Mr. Brant!!

TWIST Reviews – One Story at a Time – Sweet Lenora by Bart Hopkins

Disclaimer: These reviews pertain to stories in the anthology – Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST.  I have a story in this book (Bloodlines – I won’t be reviewing my story ;), so many feel that I cannot objectively review other stories in the same book I am also featured in… that being said, to each their own, I know my own level of integrity.  Thus, people can choose to believe me or not.  I want to review them and give my opinion… so I am.

Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST

Synopsis: Young Lenora is a dutiful daughter who abides by her mother’s wishes, despite the fact that she is becoming a woman and struggles to fly free in a position obsessed 1930s town.  But Sweet, Sweet Lenora is about to learn that freedom has it’s dangers.

Review:  I was thoroughly impressed with Bart Hopkins grasp of protocol and position in this story.  Although, I felt that this was taking place a few years earlier (turn of the century) as opposed to the 1930s.  However, this did not take away from the story.  Once again, the author’s style has an easily readable flow and his description is felt.  When Lenora is excited, I felt it, when she is disappointed, I felt it.  I thought the TWIST was going one way, then it took a turn.  Ultimately, I did have an idea where it was going, but that’s me and I’m a little bit of a TWIST detective.  I very much enjoyed this story and it was beautifully executed.

Bart Hopkins is also the author of Texas Jack and Fluke (Co-Author David Elliot). Both are available on Amazon.

Paranormal Anthology with a TWIST

Synopsis:

A horrible villain stalks a woman through a carnival, waiting for the right moment to strike.  A cat and mouse game that will end badly… but for whom?

Review:

I was very impressed by Michael Loring’s style and flow.  His images were vibrant and clear.  He beautifully executes the tension in this story, creating block after block of pressure as we anticipate what will happen next. I personally did figure out the TWIST in this story, but it didn’t detract from the read and that doesn’t mean you will figure it out.  It was a wonderful story and I look forward to reading other works by Michael Loring in the future.

You can read about my story Bloodlines below!!

XOXOXOXOXO

Q. What is the working title of your book?  The Book about to be released is Paranormal Anthology with a Twist, edited by Cynthia Shepp and Rene Folsom
Q. Where did the idea come from for the book? Cynthia started a contest in September, 2011 where her readers, and several authors she knows, submitted short stories based on a specific set of prompts, there were winners chosen and 11 stories were chosen to be in an anthology (Apocalypse: An Anthology by Readers and Authors).  She opted to continue the contest, which has become one of my greatest inspirations.
Q. What genre does your book fall under? This book would fall under Paranormal – thrillers maybe… I haven’t read all the stories yet!!
Q. Which actors would you chose to play your characters in a movie rendition? Oh, wow… Hmmm, Mueller, maybe… I don’t know… Ooo, James Spader… Or Ron Perlman… Patrice, no idea…
Q. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? When two children escape the clutches of the Gestapo, they learn more about themselves then they ever thought possible.
eQ. Will your book be Indie published or represented by an agency? It will be published independently.
Q. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? Hmmm, not sure I’ve read anything like my story, but the compilation will more than likely be a representation of several books.
Q. Who or what inspired you to write this story? Cynthia and my fascination with WW2.

Writer’s Got Talent – New Contest going on now… and I’m in it!!

WGT BannerWow!!  I’m participating in a brand new contest that was created by Bruce Goldwell (Author of the Dragon Keepers Series – http://www.BruceGoldwell.com) to help promote indie authors.  It’s very cool.  It’s set up like an XFactor for writers. It’s called Writer’s Got Talent (www.WritersGotTalent.com).  There are challenges each week for we authors to do.  This first week is all about the votes.  We need “America” (I wish – LOL) to give us those votes.  Next challenge will be the description for our books that is posted on Amazon.  The contest is designated to go on for 8 weeks.  The complete list of challenges as well as the authors and their books are displayed on the Writer’s Got Talent site.  You can also see the book covers on Pinterest (http://pinterest.com/sldearing1/book-covers-writer-s-got-talent/)

Not only is this contest helping us promote our books and blogs, but it’s doing something more important.  It’s introducing us to more writers.  The writing community is vast, but like other professions, we all need each other.  We need to lean on each other, support each other, promote one another… in general help each other.  Whether it be reading and critiquing each other’s work or helping edit or just being there to encourage one another during the rough patches.  We are all trying to get our books seen and ultimately read and this is the kind of nepotism we, as writer’s,  should practice.

I have many writer friends, online and in person.  We may not all write the same things, but we are all supportive of one another in whatever capacity we can provide.  I love that this contest is combining that mentality with a healthy dose of competitiveness.  We can only help to make each other better and try to get our words out to the those who would appreciate and enjoy them.  So I would ask that you share this post and all of these links with anyone you know who is a reader and lover of books.  They may find a new author to love or book for a friend.  Send them all over… we would love to see them. 🙂
